Frequently asked questions when using snow chains

+ Danish production chains? Danish Chain Factory supply chains for all tire sizes, from the smallest to the largest chain. Low-cost chains to the passenger vehicle or small machines can be produced as price level suitable for the customer. Our Danish total production begins first by chains to more continuous operation and heavier tasks.
+ Tire dimensions - in brief?

Tires produced for small wheelbarrows wheels as well as to the gigantic dumpers with wheels several times higher than a man. There are many different types of tread, all with divergent type designations.

Tires for construction equipment can be labeled L3, L5, indicating where bulky wear layers. Transportdæk typically have a (/) for separating the width and height, and an indication of the size of the rim. For product inquiry, it is an advantage if we know the tire's exact configuration.

+ Tire dimensions, where do I find it?

On the outside of the tire when the tire is widest is a series of numbers and letters, look for the number of (X) as spaces. These indicate the tire size designation, which is essential to find a suitable chain product.

The description may be called 33 x 12,5 x 15, 650 X 10 X 23.5 25 215/65 R 16 x C, 14.00 X 20, X 38 480/70, or equivalent. Write the name down and send the request to our contact mail, and we will work tire designation.

+ Are there tools to aid in mounting and installation? When often mount chains we recommend that you invest in an appropriate tightening tool, easy and simple collecting channels without extra effort. Please see the catalog of spare parts and tools for further information.
+ Is the chain thickness 9 mm or 12 mm?

You often find the term 9 mm or 12 mm, indicating the chain link length. When the Danish Factory Chain denotes the material thickness, describes the thickness of the cross section of the individual chain links. The higher the value, the stronger the chains.

A chain made of 9.5 mm diameter can withstand greater load and longer wear than a chain performed with 7.0 mm Ø thickness. Danish Factory Chain using chains from 3.5 mm diameter and a wall thickness up to 19 mm diameter wall thickness.

+ What impact on a chain?

The weight of the machinery to the chain and borne substrates chain portions, which is provided on page hooks which can be distorted under constant tension. The substrate with sharp cutting edges, bedrock or solid frozen ice floes wears the chain parts which come into contact with the substrate.

Chains should be reversed so that all sides of the chain wears alike. Chains should be rotated 180 degrees in the direction of travel when the spikes are sharpened pointed or chain links are flat. After Sensitive studless chains can be turned inside out so that the life is extended considerably, and the chain will have renewed the bit in the substrate.

+ What is the difference between ladder chains and pattern chains? Stig chains are constructed as rope ladders with perfect power transfer to the substrate in the machine direction. Pattern chains are designed to ensure directional stability and prevent sideways skidding.
+ What is the difference between the close and the format? Chains with close design optimized road contact. The power transmission to the surface is maximized with the density of inter-chains. The wear on the chain reduced, just as any vibration up through the machine is reduced. Standard design is perfect for lighter applications where driving comfort and performance means less.
+ What TÜV approval and Ö Norm?

Using authorizations to determine the quality of products: GS approves the product as a snow chain of a nature within the norm The German TÜV specifies that the standard test results are derived from a single character.

Ö Norm V5117 and V5119 demonstrates that the Austrian legislation met by products with printed symbol. CUNA is the Italian version, which express the same as TÜV and Ö Norm.

Norwegian Standard describes snekædernes nature, so driving with chains that meet these provisions are approved to drive in Norway.
Chains without individual approval is allowed as long as they comply with the individual standards regulations.

+ What to look for when purchasing chains? Quality is reflected in the product's weight and charisma. Good heavy chains weighs well. Side hooks close tightly and the chain portions consists of heavy grade steel. Wire trap terminals well around the wire.
+ What to choose?

You must select the type of chain that suit your driving needs. Neither more nor less. Choose for effort and duration, but take into account weather fluctuations.

From a sustainable principle should choose the chains that have longer life and can withstand more wear. Stig Chains keeps example 3-15 years at normal to strenuous driving.

+ Which parts are there? There are many different parts. Danish Chain Factory, most chain parts. See our catalog with tools and spare parts for all types of repairs and chain models.
+ Which product to choose?

The choice of the products is large. One should choose the product that corresponds to one's driving needs:

Take the beaten track and only over short distances, is quick installation and light chain types perfect. Driving takes place with great force and over long distances, should the choice chain accommodate heavier chains. Is weight load huge or terrain extreme, should chains be designed for greater power transfer than planned, only thereby ensuring a continuous effort.

+ How long does a chain last? Chain life corresponds to the effort and conditions. The correct chain for demanding drive should last for 3-5 years under moderate effort. Less continuous professional work and further by periodic efforts.
+ How do you as a difference between good products and other products?

It is hard. There is no easy guideline for the selection of the right product. All traffic is different, so the canopy chain choices one can enjoy for many years to come. Rather a functional durable product than it easy to buy, where to be in doubt.

Look for the package. Is wrapping sensible and functional with easy installation instructions, the economic council to designate the correct steel grades and consume oil for hærdningsprocesserne.

+ How to buy? Chains quality can be acquired through fagbranchen; auto dealers, tire dealers and spare parts dealers. You can query online using the contact form for opportunities to one's driving needs.

+ How to mount chains for cars?

The chain consists of a wire chain, chains should be held up as the chain portions hangs freely and any infiltrations can be removed before installation. Place the wire behind the deck and close the wire latch and pull the chain portions in place across the deck and close the locks.
Consists chain not of wire, steel chain spread out on the deck and easily assembled with side chain hooks / locks at the foot of the deck before driving one meter forward.

Then tighten the chain.

There should be room to squeeze a few fingers between the chain and the tire when the chain is well-adjusted. Thus, the chain can recover if driving on ice floes or hitting a curb. See the individual installation instructions in the product.

+ How to mount the strongest chains?

The chains down with the outer side facing the back of the vehicle. A solid rope is passed through the rim and the ends of the chain. The wheel is rotated and the chain kept centered until the chain is rolled up on the deck.

Chain ends adapted middle of the deck and the locking mechanism is closed, then tighten the side chains for perfect fit. There must be room for a fist between the tire and chain so the chain can move them when driving and load is extreme.

+ How to attach chains to trucks?

Make sure that the chains are free of infiltrations and nodule formation. Chain laid neatly on deck possibly from the deck so the wheels can run up on the chain.

The rest of the chain is centered on the deck, and sought.

There must be room for a small palm between tire and chain so the chain can recover when driving becomes demanding. Side chain hooks and lock together and the snow chain adapted tire fit. See the individual installation instructions in the product.

+ How to repair a chain?

All chains can be repaired with spare parts and tools. Look for the chain portions that are worn more than 50% of the original thickness of the steel. These chain links must be subsequently repaired with pin couplings chain or other equivalent material. Missing sections or cross-links can be replaced by new parts. Use common sense whenever repairs it comes to your own safety.

+ Why snow chains? Use snow chains when driving is affected by ice and snow masses. Snow chains ensures the vehicle's responsiveness and multiplies the reaction rate when an accident occurs. A good quality snow chains are guaranteed to lead and machine can do the work without reduced safety.
+ Why terrain chains? Where mud, ice, snow masses or the terrain itself provides reduced contact with the road machine, allows the use of chains extra adhesion, which ensures progress significantly.
+ Control of the use value chains?

Remember to inspect the individual chain parts for defects and wear that can lead to chains next time do not meet the current use value. It is important that the locking system can be closed without error. Side Chains and wire should fit the circumference of the tire.

Side Hooks must be closed so that the chain links not pull free. Remember to repeated bending makes the metal soft and curing eliminated. Cross Chains must not have deep gashes or completely threadbare parties. See catalog for repair chain, spare parts and tools.

+ Quick installation versus continuous drive? Chains with quick-fitting is not suitable for driving over long distances or continuous operation. The chains are designed to be quickly and easily mounted and dismounted as needed, so you at all times retain control of the machine.
+ Chains for two or four wheels? Depending on the effort necessary to fit chains so that all drive wheels and castors have chains. Machine shafts and the exchange can become worn differently, when one uses only chains on one half of the driving wheels or castors. Over shorter distances the difference is insignificant, but over long distances continuous will the wear become more pronounced.
+ Do you remove excess chain links?

If you wish to remove excess chain material not be used for the same tire size, there should always be left chain link, then re-mounting is made easier. The side chains of long shortened there so there is always a tail of at least a part, then the installation and tensioning easier next time. Excess joints and chain bits can be stored as spare parts.

All the chains are designed to fit a simple dækdimensionens different width and height or possibly more tire sizes to suit the chain dimensioning.

+ Rules for use of snow chains, what do they mean?

Some countries have regulations on the use of snow chains, so traffic can be run safely and controlled during changing weather conditions. As a road user you have to be self-reliant, thus the vehicle should be equipped with adequate snow chains to one's driving needs and bring equipment if an accident happens, the vehicle is stuck.

Please see Rules and regulations for Europe for each country's regulations and legal equirements. Use the weather map with snow depths to inform Jeremiah after the current snow conditions.

+ Spare parts, what and how? A spare replaces the missing in the chain. Spare parts can never replace a new chain, but should only extend the period to the new chains to be acquired.
+ Rust on chains? When the protective film of alloy or steel paint is broken or worn will rust happen. When the snow chains for winter dismantled should chain portions short flushed with clean water to remove salt and gravel. Add the chains to dry and give like the dry chains thorough spray with oil as rust formation do not get the loose parts to grow together.
+ Should you buy additional tightening? For quick installation or poor installation conditions additional firming make the difference between a poorly fitted chain and a functional chain. Our chain tensioner, the spider is perfect to keep the chain in place, although it becomes upset or pushed askew while driving.
+ Should we buy tools to assemble chains? Additional installation tools is well to heavy chains of 150-200 kg or more. Should we install many chains offer extra help tool that makes the process easier and faster.
+ Snow chains with spikes barbed or not? Chains without studs are suitable for driving the noise and limit switching must be done gently. Chains with spikes suitable for more demanding driving in hilly terrain and the engine power to be transferred to the substrate quickly and efficiently.
+ Thicknesses and design? Stig chains act as impellers, the higher the wall thickness, the more power can be transferred to the substrate. The closer the pattern is, the better the contact and the lower the vibration of the machine at high speeds.
